The Office of Research and Innovation at Virginia Tech has an immediate opening for the Attending Veterinarian and Director of the Animal Resources and Care Division (ARCD). This a full-time, non-tenure, Administrative and Professional faculty appointment located in Blacksburg, VA. Faculty appointment in a college may be possible commensurate with the experience of the selected candidate.
The ARCD is responsible for the daily operations and management of several animal facilities that support Virginia Tech’s agriculture, life sciences, health sciences, biomedical, veterinary medicine, and fish and wildlife programs in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and institutional policies. ARCD veterinarians also liaise with and provide veterinary oversight of investigator-managed satellite facilities. Virginia Tech’s AAALAC accredited animal care program comprises approximately 180,000 sq. ft. and 85 acres of animal housing and support space for a wide variety of species that include rodents, small animals, farm species, avian, and aquatic species.

The Attending Veterinarian and Director of ARCD is a key member of the Office of Research and Innovation’s senior leadership team and is integral to supporting the university’s rapidly growing life and health science portfolio.
The successful candidate will:
• Provide leadership as the university's Attending Veterinarian.
• Provide leadership of the Animal Resources and Care Division and the university's central vivarium facilities.
• Serve as an ex officio voting member of the Virginia Tech Institutional Animal Care Committee (IACUC) as the designated Attending Veterinarian.
• Provide oversight and provision of high-quality veterinary care and animal welfare across the program.
• Work with the Institutional Official, IACUC, Scholarly Integrity and Research Compliance, Environmental Health and Safety, College of Veterinary Medicine leadership, and others to ensure the highest quality of care and compliance.
• Report to the Senior Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation.
• Have strong support from university leadership and new resources to grow the animal resources program.

Position will be located in Blacksburg, VA with travel to other university animal facilities within the state, as needed. While visiting facilities, position will require substantial walking and standing, and traversing over uneven terrain. Position requires moderate to heavy lifting, moving, pushing of over 25 pounds. Position is responsible for responding during off-schedule hours for emergency purposes.
