Position Summary

The Advancement Associate supports the Office of the Vice President for University Advancement and is responsible for a variety of high-level events and projects that support Advancement fundraising goals and priorities of the University. The incumbent must be able to work autonomously while exercising sound judgment, political skill and discretion toward the completion of assignments and projects. The ability to interact with staff, donors, and volunteers in a fast-paced environment, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role.


FLSA: Exempt - This position is covered by health benefits, and is exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation according to the Fair Labor Standards Act).


CSU Classification Salary Range: $ 3,897 - $ 7,051 per month


Hiring Range: $3,897 - $5,000 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training


Salary Grade/Range:  2 


Recruitment Type: Regular (Probationary)


Time Base: Full-Time 


Pay Plan: 12 months 


Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Must be available to work evenings and weekends and on-call responsibilities as needed. 


Department Information 


University Advancement serves as the philanthropic arm of the University and is responsible for building and fostering strong, effective alumni, donor, and community relations to secure private resources in support of the University’s priorities, academic programs, capital projects, and student scholarships. University Advancement is responsible for alumni relations, donor and alumni communications, charitable gifts to the institution, as well as corporate and foundation partnerships with a wide variety of constituents. University Advancement is also the official liaison to auxiliary organizations affiliated with the University, including the University Foundation at Sacramento State and the Sacramento State Alumni Association.


Minimum Qualifications 


Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.


Required Qualifications 


1. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally and persuasively, with enthusiasm and diplomacy both in person or virtually (on zoom, by telephone, etc.).
2. Experience working with a variety of internal and external contacts such as campus community, volunteers, public officials, alumni, donors, non-profit boards of directors.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of meeting and event coordination such as planning, organizational development, decision making, contracts and policy implementation to carry out successful events.
4. Outstanding organizational and time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple and simultaneous projects, set priorities, track progress, meet strict deadlines and produce accurate and detailed-oriented results.
5. Experience handling sensitive situations with tact and discretion.
6. Strong analytical skills and the ability to creatively and diplomatically problem solve with minimal guidance.
7. Advanced computer skills with expertise in Microsoft Office Suite.
8. Demonstrated ability to provide lead direction to others, with the ability to hire and train student assistants.
9. Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.

10. Certification or specialized training in event planning and management.
11. Experience working with high-level volunteers and donors.
12. Experience in a higher education or non-profit environment.

The ASR contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for Sacramento State for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the Police Service Center located in the University Union.
