Job Summary

Reporting jointly to the Assistant Director of Faculty Support Services and the Business, Government, and International Economy Unit Head, the Unit Coordinator provides high level administrative support to the Unit Head, and to the unit’s projects and activities.


Position Description

  • Works with faculty to ensure smooth delivery of first year, required course and provides direct course delivery support including logistics for complex exercises and simulations.
  • Provides direct administrative support for 1-2 BGIE faculty, typically the unit head or course head.
  • Manages the administrative process for faculty recruiting: distribution of candidate material, planning and coordination of visits, and compliance with recruiting guidelines.
  • Organizes and plans logistics for seminars series, research conferences and other unit events.
  • Oversees teaching, research, course development mentoring observations, and assists with identifying and tracking field research opportunities.
  • Assists Unit Head with process for multi-year unit faculty assignment planning.
  • Keeps current on HBS/University initiatives; is information source on activities of faculty, unit, HBS and is unit’s liaison with internal and external contacts.
  • Assists with identifying administrative support workload balance needs within unit.
  • Manages unit calendar, budget; assists with unit space planning.
  • Manages unit web presence, determines and implements best practices for sharing, storing, archiving electronic and paper files and other information.
  • Performs broad range of writing, editing, and technology support functions.
  • Handles complex, confidential materials.
  • May assist in identifying new technologies to improve office productivity, enhance teaching/research initiatives.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in administrative support role(s) or related experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Education beyond high school may count toward experience.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) experience is a must.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in a variety of situations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, project management, analytical, writing, and editing skills.
  • Proven ability to take initiative, work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, handle confidential information with discretion, and work well under deadlines.
  • Ability to learn, teach new software and stay current with various technologies.
  • Ability to develop an understanding of and stay up-to-date on the academic research of the unit.

Additional Information

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 3 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
