Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Unit Computing Specialist for the department of Dining Services. Reporting to the Assistant Director, this position provides expert technical assistance/troubleshooting to IT hardware and software related matters within Rutgers University Dining Services.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Answers end-user questions or researches and responds to questions within an appropriate time.
  • Performs analytical, technical, and administrative work to plan, design, and install networked and stand-alone computer systems.
  • Responsible for telephone and on-site support.
  • Develops documentation, user procedures, training guides, and security procedures.
  • Acts as liaison between vendors, within or outside of Rutgers University, pertaining to IT related matters on Dining Services projects.
  • Conducts hands-on training sessions and instructional classes in hardware and software applications.
  • Provides department wide A/V support for Catering Services events and equipment maintenance.
  • Remains up to date in new developments and technologies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Assists in the review, analysis, and procurement of technology and accessories for mobile devices for the institution and affiliates.
  • Establishes and recommends standards for ordering supported products by corporate policies, security, and legal compliance.
  • Assists with management of vendor relations providing products to the institution.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience plus two years relevant experience.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Position requires the use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license will be required for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Exceptional customer service, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to absorb and retain information and conduct research into a wide range of computing related issues.
  • Ability to keep up with all industry standards and trends pertaining to desktops.
  • Must keep abreast of industry trends and changes in software and hardware technologies in order to improve service levels and advance the use of appropriate technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with E-Blaster, Buzzsaw, Eventmaster, Nutritionist, WRQ Reflection, Blackboard, Atrium, Sequioa and AS400, Aurora FoodPro, VOIP and Zimbra, preferred.
  • Experience in a technical support or in a university IT support environment. Experience with support and maintenance of POS systems and credit card terminals. A+ certifications.
