Position Overview
The undergraduate summer research associate appointment in organic chemistry will be carried out in the research program of Dr. Joseph R Clark. The candidate will work on an organic chemistry method development project and natural product synthesis project. The candidate will be carrying out organic chemistry method development projects and participate in maintaining good safety practices in the laboratory. Additionally, the undergraduate summer research associate will assist in the identification and characterization of new compounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
-Perform research in organic chemistry method development
-Develop and carry out synthetic routes for natural products
-Use and implement safe laboratory practices
-Maintain excellent records of experiments performed
-Attend research meetings, provide research summaries and present research in formal settings
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Applicants will commit to 400 hours of summer research work consisting of literature review, development of novel techniques and software, and presentation of work to colleagues.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The candidate will have finished undergraduate Organic Chemistry I and II prior to the start date of the position. They will need to provide an updated CV along with two letters of recommendation (one of them must be from a professor in chemistry, the other can be from any STEM area).
