Undergraduate Research Internship in Science and Engineering

The Undergraduate Research Internship in Science and Engineering (URISE) provides experience in research programs in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Brigham Young University for a 12-to-14-week period. Undergraduates will gain valuable skills while engaging in challenging and intriguing research projects ranging from investigating fundamental science and properties to pilot-scale engineering projects. Research programs in the departments involve biochemistry, electrochemistry, sustainable energy, combustion, nuclear energy, thermodynamics, molecular simulation, and process simulation. During this interim research assistantship, the hired candidate will be expected to work daily (Monday-Friday) on BYU's campus, be trained in safe practices in the laboratory setting (if performing lab work), to actively participate in a research group, to perform experimental or simulation work, to assist in the analysis of data, and to contribute to writing of reports and publications. The hired candidate will also support graduate students in their research as directed. The hired candidate will receive mentorship from a faculty member and experienced undergraduate and graduate research assistants in the department.

 

What qualifies you for this role:

Must be a sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate student enrolled in a chemical engineering, chemistry or related program at a university or college. Exceptional freshman may be considered.

Experience in experimental or computational work in chemistry or chemical engineering is desired .
