Position Summary:
 
The UCI English Department is a diverse and thriving community made up of over forty full-time faculty, almost 100 graduate students, dozens of lecturers, and eight staff. Our faculty are academics, novelists, poets and journalists who have together won numerous awards and distinctions. Those include two Pulitzer Prizes, one National Book Critics Circle Award, the Charles Moran Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Field of Computers and Writing Studies, the Arthur Miller Prize, the Paul Robeson Award for Artistic Excellence and multiple Guggenheim, ACLS, and Fulbright Fellowships. We are one of the strongest departments at UCI: U.S. News and World Report ranks our PhD program the highest on the campus and our prestigious MFA program is consistently ranked one of the best in the nation. The English Major is the largest in the School of the Humanities and we host a Literary Journalism Major and a Creative Writing minor as well. And in addition to housing a field-leading Rhetoric and Composition Program, we administer the campus-wide Composition Program. The English Department hosts a workplace environment that supports wellness, creativity, teamwork, knowledge, and growth. The Undergraduate & MA Program Coordinator works directly with English majors and minors on issues related to course scheduling, petitions, independent study proposals, and enrollment authorization codes. Coordinates with the Undergraduate Chair and Undergraduate Committee in curricular matters and awards administration. Solicits quarterly course descriptions, orders textbooks and desk copies for instructors. Recruits, orients, trains and supervises the Department’s undergraduate student employees. Manages recruitment and admissions for the MA Program, student enrollment, and tracking academic progress. Works with MA students to provide thesis filing procedures. Works with MA Program Director to solve curricular or program issues and to develop creative solutions. Purchases and maintains the Department’s office supplies inventory. Provides administrative support in organizing department events, website maintenance, key assignments and tracking, and special projects as assigned.

$30.44 - $34.06 (Hourly Rate) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $30.44 - $48.86 (Hourly Rate)

Required:
  • 1-3 years' similar work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors, formulate logical and objective conclusions and recognize alternatives and their applications. 
  • Proven ability to exercise independent thinking and judgment to effectively complete assigned projects on time with minimal direction. 
  • Strong ability to analyze policies and procedures and implement change for the benefit of the program. 
  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of the campus community. 
  • Skill to communicate professionally with a broad variety of people. Ability and willingness to maintain a positive attitude and contribute both as an individual and as a team member to achieve the goals and objectives of the program and department. 
  • Proven skill in the use of a desktop computer using a Windows operating system, Microsoft Office software programs, Word and Excel, e-mail and internet programs to access and search the world wide web. 
  • Ability to learn new software and the use of new technology as required to perform the job.


 


Preferred:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Skill in the design, creation, and maintenance of databases and spreadsheets to extract and analyze relevant data and present in a logical report format. Experience creating and modifying web pages.


 


Special Conditions Preferred:
 
certification): Will be required to work occasional evenings or weekends during the academic year.
