The Department of Psychology seeks an Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 to join our team.  Advises students in psychology on university policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. Fosters student success by identifying and implementing proactive strategies that help students engage in their educational experience and fulfill their educational goals. Identifies resources and collaborations for resolving student challenges. Consistently directs students to appropriate resources. Teaches student survey course, including updating course material and recommending and implementing course improvements. Involved in student Orientation. Participates in graduation-related activities, including commencement rehearsal and line-up. Some evenings and weekends are required.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in psychology or similar field. A minimum of two years of relevant experience. Able to communicate complex ideas in a manner that adapts to student needs. Able to articulate program requirements and relevance to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, partner units, etc. Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including active listening and empathy. Able to build strong relationships with students. Able to accommodate students’ personal or cultural identity in advising interactions. Able to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Desired Qualifications

Understands and follows FERPA guidelines; Base knowledge and application of university's and unit's advising policies, such as drop deadlines, override requirements, petition process, faculty rules, registrar processes, etc.; General knowledge of academic advising, including general education, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc.; Knowledge of general education requirements and learning outcomes; Able to identify a student's progress toward degree. Able to perform basic transactions in SIS.


Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $42,700.00-$56,900.00. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
