Position Summary
UNC Police is seeking to hire qualified individuals as sworn Reserve Police Officers to serve in a part-time capacity.
The Reserve Police Officer positions will be required to work a minimum of three (3) home football games, four (4) home basketball games, and two (2) additional events such as plays, concerts, lectures, and celebrations. The Reserve Officers do not work on patrol squads and do not assist with patrol shift coverage.
The Reserve Police Officers are uniformed police positions and must adhere to the Department’s General Orders (G.O.). All uniforms, duty belts, and appropriate departmentally issued duty gear are provided; the applicant must provide their own shoes in accordance with G.O.
These are at-will, intermittent temporary positions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment. Additional Education and Experience will be necessary for progressive steps (Journey and Advanced).
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Current certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Two years of law enforcement experience.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Candidate must meet physical and psychological requirements of the North Carolina Criminal Education and Standards Commission, which includes a physical exam, psychological exam, and drug test. In addition, the UNC Police requires a polygraph examination.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
