Job Summary

A new UCSF clinical facility on the Mission Bay campus, the new five-story, 182,800-square-foot, clinical building will include an ambulatory surgery center, urgent care, adult primary and secondary multi-specialty clinics, and a pharmacy. The Bayfront Medical Building is critical to support UCSF Health operations and to serve a growing patient demand, including an increasing demand for outpatient surgery. The Bayfront Medical Building complex is located south of the new UCSF Wayne and Gladys Valley Center for Vision (WGVCV) and runs along Illinois, Mariposa and Third streets. 

The Ultrasound Radiologic Service Supervisor is responsible for supervising a staff of approximately 10-20 employees, with 24-hour/7 day inpatient/outpatient responsibility. The reporting structure for this position has direct reports consisting of:  Principal, Senior and entry level Sonographers, and support staff.  Other personnel responsibilities will include participating in the hiring of new employees, helping organize the workflow, coordinating daily work schedules, and understanding the union environment. The day to day operations and productivity of the department are combined with performance improvement and quality initiatives designed for improvement of service levels and staffing.  Additional responsibilities also include maintaining National Patient Safety Goals with all employees and following up on all safety related issues. The Ultrasound Radiologic Service Supervisor 2 will also demonstrate a commitment to the requirements of the clinical training program by the colleges that are associated with UCSF and actively have their direct reports participate in training students.

A candidate with strong leadership skills is required, and ability to effectively communicate with staff, departments and physicians throughout the health system.  The Ultrasound Radiologic Service Supervisor  will operate at the highest level to provide management and other professionals with technical expertise and expert knowledge on Radiology Imaging.

Department Description

The Radiology Department is a specialty medical service that offers a wide range of imaging techniques to diagnose and treat a broad range of medical conditions.

At UCSF Medical Center, we offer the full spectrum of techniques, using the most advanced equipment. Combined with Bone Densitometry, CT, Interventional, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound, and X-ray. We perform more than 500,000 procedures annually. In fact, a number of radiology advancements and applications were developed here.


Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in the field of radiology
  • ARDMS, required in OB-Gyn, Abdomen, and Vascular Technologist
  • BLS Certification
  • Licensed technologist in a radiology modality
  • Clinical practice knowledge and applied background in a radiology modality. Knowledge of terms, concepts, and protocols. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in an acute care setting to improve operations.
  • Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant external regulations.
  • Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others. Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates and effectively handles change.
  • Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving Radiology processes, protocols, databases, and technology.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate within and across departments.
  • Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution. Demonstrates sound judgement.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, persuade, advise, and counsel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 years previous management or supervisory experience in an acute care setting and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Pediatric and MSK certification

License/Certification

  • ARDMS, required in OB-Gyn, Abdomen, and Vascular Technologist
  • BLS Certification
