The University of Pittsburgh University Library System (ULS) requires an IT Resident for systems development projects in the ULS that support the library's services and programs in open-access scholarly publishing, scholarly digital archives, scholarly communications infrastructure, and other digital scholarship initiatives. This is a 24-month, full-time position in the ULS Information Technology Department designed to give new graduates a practical career-building 
opportunity which benefits both the Resident and the ULS. The Resident will gain directed, hands-on experience building out ULS information systems within a mutually chosen set of specialization tracks. At various times the incumbent will perform in all areas of systems analysis, system design, needs 
assessment, software development, interface design and development, and software support for numerous electronic publishing and library-related applications.

The incumbent must be a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Computing and Information Systems or an equivalent computational, informatics, or engineering program at the University of Pittsburgh. The incumbent must quickly learn new concepts, manage tasks efficiently while meeting deadlines, and possess excellent communication skills. The incumbent must be a self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team-player.



Job Summary

Performs basic development, customization, and integration work on application systems. Assists in preparing detailed specifications, recommendations, and testing procedures.


Essential Functions 

The incumbent will perform in areas of systems analysis, system design, needs assessment, software development, interface design and development, and software support. The incumbent will be responsible for communication with staff, faculty, students, and other stakeholders both within and external to the university.


Physical Effort 

This is typically a sedentary position.
This position must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification Familiarity with programing using web scripting languages (e.g. PHP, Perl, Python). Familiarity with SQL, relational databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL). Familiarity with data and metadata procedures and practices. Familiarity with configuration management, deployment orchestration, and revision control. Ability to quickly learn new concepts and software. Flexibility and drive to move from directed learning to independent contribution.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Work Arrangement Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
Hiring Range $43,000.00 to $53,000.00
