Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill six part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week during academic terms and up to 40 hours during summer break) Landscape and Grounds student position for the UHDS (University Housing & Dining Services) at Oregon State University (OSU).
The UHDS (University Housing & Dining Services) Landscape and Grounds student position will assist with keeping all areas of UHDS facilities safe and clean. This includes all landscapes, hardscapes (ADA ramps, sidewalks, patios, entryways, parking lots, etc.), and trash compactors/containment areas. This position requires the candidate to be able to lift an minimum weight of 50 lbs. This position will also use a wide variety of hand and power tools, power equipment, and use of state vehicles/utility carts. Follows all safety requirements. This position requires a steady and consistent work pace. This position also performs weekly and weekend trash routines.
Position Duties
The duties includes but not limited to use of hand and power tools, power equipment such as back pack blowers, push mower, hard edger, gas shears, weed whackers, and pressure washers. This position requires all employees to drive trucks or utility carts. This position performs daily and weekend trash detail with using multiple trash compactors. Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods of time are part of this position.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Prior experience with basic landscape equipment such as weed trimmers, push mowers, and basic landscape tools such as shovels, rakes, and weed tools.
