    Position description

    UCSF Junior Specialist – Xu Lab

    The Xu Lab at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Diabetes Center is seeking to fill a position of Junior Specialist. The overall focus of our research is to understand the mechanisms behind obesity, type 2 diabetes and fatty liver diseases. Our work focuses on elucidating the functions of the CNS neuronal circuits in adaptive regulation of food intake, energy expenditure, glucose and lipid metabolism in response to physiological and environmental changes, such as starvation, high-fat feeding and aging. The major responsibilities of the position include performing experiments (70-80% time), as well as managing lab business in the capacity of our lab manager (20-30% time).

    The successful candidate must have (or in process of obtaining) a bachelor degree in neuroscience background. Applicants must have obtained the bachelor degree by the time of hire. Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. Basic skills in bioinformatics are desirable. The candidate should have the ability to carry out experiments independently, perform data analysis, interpret results and do trouble-shooting. The candidate is expected to present at seminars, journal clubs as well as participate in application of research funding. The applicant must be comfortable working with animals. Having excellent communication skills and superb work ethics are absolute requirements. The candidate should be prepared to commit 2 years in this position.
