Posting Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Per Diem Physician Assistant for the Department of Adult Medical Services Statewide. The Physician Assistant performs initial and follow up assessments of inmates/patients in a variety of settings such as initial intake area, healthcare unit for sick call, emergency situations in housing, chronic care clinics and infirmary. The Physician Assistant ensures that the total health needs of inmates within New Jersey Department of Corrections are met. This includes medical care to adolescents (16 to 18 years), adults (18-64 years), and geriatrics (65+). The Physician Assistant will work with a variety of healthcare professionals and correction officers in a correctional environment providing health services to inmates. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following: 
* Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility. 
* Assesses inmate/patient in a variety of settings. 
* Identifies inmate/patient health problems and prescribes treatment under direction of a physician. 
* Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by the physician. 
* Provides education to inmate/patient, health care, and correctional staff. 
* Documents all health care contacts. 
* Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled meditations.

Minimum Education and Experience
* Graduate of an accredited college/university Physician Assistant program with current certification/ licensure in the state of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Current certification/license to practice as Physician Assistant in the State of New Jersey. 
* BLS Certified. 
* Computer literacy. 
* Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
* Active CCHP certification.
