Summary of Job Duties:

The Extra-Help Peer Tutor is a part-time professional staff member of the UAPB Student Success Center of the Department of Enrollment Management and Student Success. Tutors are responsible for leading one on one or small group sessions that cater to the needs and goals of students in need of academic assistance. Tutors are responsible for clarifying and reinforcing course context, assignments, and preparing students for course exams.
Peer tutors help to integrate effective learning and study strategies for students, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments and material. Peer tutors provide an extremely high level of customer service support to students. Peer tutors support classroom instruction by helping students become better learners and gain the confidence and skills to achieve their greatest possible academic success. Peer tutors respect confidentiality in all appropriate aspects of tutoring. All UAPB Tutors complete College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) Level I Certification training during their first year of tutoring.
Must demonstrate exceptional customer service skills; Knowledge of the work-related subject area; Serve as a role model for students; Be able to work well with students from different backgrounds; Must have patience and be able to motivate others; Build open and honest relationships through excellent verbal and written communication; Perform in a team focused environment; Display high energy and genuine passion about student success; Be committed to excellence in providing student tutoring services; Have strong problem-solving skills, organizational, and time management skills and; Have computer proficiency in Microsoft products and; Have the ability to easily learn and navigate other software programs and forms of technology as needed.

Qualifications:

Applicant must be 18 years old and legally allowed to work in the U.S.; Current UAPB student in very good academic standing (3.0 CUM GPA) or above; must have completed preferred tutoring subject with a B+ or higher in the course(s) one will tutor; ability to professionally & collegially interact with students; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and energetic and confident personality. Student must a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduating Senior to apply.

APPLICATION PROCESS, SALARY, BENEFITS AND APPOINTMENT PERIOD:  $11.00/hourly, Part-time (maximum 20 hours a week) Hours will vary, depending on student schedules, but generally tutor sessions will occur afternoon and evening.
