Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Applicants must be able to teach American Literature before 1900; teach survey courses in American literature; teach general education courses in literature and/or writing; and advise graduate students.
Typical Experience:
Evidence of successful teaching of American Literature before 1900.
Required Education or Training:

PhD in English or Comparative Literature, with specialization in American Literature before 1900, at time of appointment.


Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . Salary is based on education and experience.

    The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track position (nine-month appointment) at the level of Assistant Professor of American Literature beginning in the 2023-2024 Academic Year.  The successful applicant will be qualified to teach American Literature before 1900 at the upper-division and graduate levels; teach survey courses in American literature; teach general education courses in literature and/or writing; and advise graduate students.

    We are especially interested in applicants who bring complementary areas of expertise that will diversify our course offerings.  Complementary areas of expertise that particularly interest the department are Environmental and climate literature; Indigenous literature; Black literature; Latinx literature; Asian-American literature; World literature, including African and Asian literature; postcolonial literature; LGBTQ+ literature.
