The Postdoctoral Research Associate will have a substantial role in science communication and stakeholder engagement related to WPES research activities.

The WPES Research Group at the University of Maine is a multidisciplinary interdepartmental research team of faculty, students, and professionals that collaborate on research projects focused on developing science-based solutions to watershed and estuary management problems. WPES affiliates are involved in collaborative research projects inspired by societal demands for science-based, stakeholder-guided solutions to modern watershed, lake, river, stream, and coastal estuary problems. The research activities typically focus on the identification and quantification of watershed and estuary characteristics and the landscape processes, human activities, and climate conditions affecting their dynamics. End goals of the research are framed around the development of new knowledge, strategies for adaptation of knowledge into management actions, and/or management decision tools that natural resource managers, engineers, public safety and health professionals, and communities can use in practical natural resource management applications. WPES projects therefore include the influence of multiple disciplines such as geomorphology, hydrology, biology, sociology, and civil engineering. Given the stakeholder motivations for most of our projects, we put substantial effort into science communication.

Typical hiring range for this one-year, fixed-length position is $50,000 to $65,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
