Title Two Postdoctoral Positions in the ATLAS group at Indiana University, Bloomington
Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track
Department IU Bloomington Physics
Location Bloomington
Position Summary
The Physics Department at Indiana University (IU) Bloomington invites applications for two postdoctoral positions with its group working on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. These positions are expected to last for three years, subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance. Experience with hardware instrumentation, electronics and computing is particularly valuable.
The IU ATLAS group consists of Professors Harold Evans, Sabine Lammers, Chris Meyer and Rick van Kooten, Research Scientists Fred Luehring and Simone Sottocornola, and several postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate students. We participate in a wide range of physics analyses, including Higgs, Vector Boson Fusion, Vector Boson Scattering, and searches for non- Standard Model particles. We have had responsibilities for the design and fabrication of the barrel transition radiation tracker (TRT) and have continuing roles in TRT operations. We are heavily involved in the operations and upgrades to the Level-1 calorimeter trigger, specifically the global feature extractor (gFEX) that triggers on boosted objects and global event quantities, and the global event processor (GEP) in Phase-II. We also work on readout and calibration of the new inner tracker (ITk). In addition, we operate an ATLAS Tier 2 computing site at Indiana University in collaboration with the University of Chicago and U. Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
The starting date is negotiable; however, it is expected that the appointment will start on or before February 1, 2024. The positions are intended to be based at CERN.
Basic Qualifications
A Ph.D. in experimental high-energy or nuclear physics is required at time of appointment.
