Job Description:
Under general supervision of the Dean of Student Success, the Tutor Coordinator manages the Tutoring Center to develop and implement a strategic vision for the unit that promotes best practices in academic support and learning.
  • Manage the operations of the campus Tutoring Center and its staff to include recruitment, training, and supervision of full-time, part-time, and student hire tutors and all associated tutoring activities using knowledge of program administration, teaching aids, and adult learning techniques.
  • Develop and interpret policies/procedures independently or by collaboration with other Tutor Coordinators for day-to-day program upkeep using NOVA technology and project management skills.
  • Establish tutor’s schedules for one-on-one, paper review, and embedded tutoring sessions. Ensure tutor programs and resources are managed properly.
  • Lead marketing, student program development, and outreach for the campus Tutoring Center.
  • Provide one-on-one or and group tutoring services to students by scheduled appointment or walk-in session.
  • Develop annual goals and assessment processes and prepare monthly qualitative and quantitative reports regarding services and activities. Participate in accreditation research, statistics collection, and APER development.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor unit’s annual budget. Conduct business budget funding needs assessment and development prior to each fiscal year.
  • Collaborate with campus divisions on initiatives that aim to increase student success, retention, and graduation rates. Serve on VCCS, college, and campus committees to promote student success. Plan, develop, and deliver training programs on tutoring services to internal and external contacts.
  • Work collaboratively with the faculty and academic divisions to effectively target tutor services as determined by the faculty members.
  • Conduct orientation sessions (for student & faculty), participate in academic division meetings, and participate in other initiatives that market the center (to students and faculty).
  • Pursue tutoring certification opportunities for all staff members.
  • Tutoring goals and image remain promoted and enhanced to ensure strategic business outcomes are achieved.
  • Ensure data monitoring for accreditation standards.

This position may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends. May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
KSA’s:
  • Ability for program planning/operation and resource management for day-to-day campus tutoring operations.
  • Ability to schedule, distribute and monitor tutor assignments
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve matters within the scope of the tutoring program independently. Routinely consult with the Dean of Student Success, academic division Deans, faculty and/or colleagues to enhance the tutoring offerings
  • Strong computer literacy, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and supervise in a diverse learning environment
  • Ability to provide tutoring in various formats to ensure student needs are fulfilled.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience working in an educational setting
  • Experience providing services in secondary and/or higher education
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Experience with various software found in the Microsoft Suite of applications and learning management system
