About PLUS:

The PLUS  - Personalized Learning Squared project, run by the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University aims to double the rate of math learning in middle school students, particularly those who have been historically underserved. This project is operated in collaboration with Carnegie Learning and Stanford University and is led by Principal Investigator Prof. Ken Koedinger and Shiv Gupta.  

Our program features a hybrid tutoring platform that combines human and AI tutoring to deliver personalized learning for each student. We are currently working with school districts in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and California.  Our team consists of diverse individuals with backgrounds ranging from experienced researchers to high-tech to small startups and we operate in a fast-paced and fun environment. 

About The Role:

As a Tutor Supervisor at PLUS, you will be responsible for recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and managing (mostly remote) tutors at our partner school sites. 

Your core responsibilities will include: 

  • Recruiting, onboarding, and supervising tutors
  • Working with researchers, learning engineers, and program managers to coordinate and schedule the tutoring program at partner schools.
  • Meetings and regular communication with PLUS leaders and school administrators
  • Conducting orientation and training for new tutors in conjunction with learning engineers
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with school administration, classroom teachers, tutors, and students
  • Designing, developing, and improving policies and processes for tutor management as we scale up.
  • Maintaining files and records of tutoring activities and for each tutored student
  • Providing feedback on tutor performance and working with the Product team to ensure a positive learning experience for tutors involved in the program.
  • Develop, facilitate, and evaluate math tutor training resources.
  • Coordinate tutor training in partnership with faculty and other staff.
  • Manage the payroll process for undergraduate tutors.
  • Build a community of tutors. 

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1-3 years of experience working in early mathematics programs and/or as a math specialist
  • Must have the willingness to engage with and mentor college students.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple ongoing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to implementing inclusive practices.
  • Growth-focused mindset with an emphasis on mentoring students
