Position Summary

Assists students, either individually or in small groups, in the completion of assignments, review of course material, solving problems and preparing for tests.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Position is on site in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • Assists students in the review of course material and problem solving.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts workshops and study groups for students; conducts marketing activities, such as class visits and new student orientations.
  • Serves as a communication link and faculty liaison.
  • Guides students in selecting and using material to meet learning needs.
  • Maintains a weekly calendar of available hours for student appointments.
  • Maintains instructional materials (e.g. textbooks, calculators, software, etc.).
  • Collects and analyze data.
  • Participates in required tutor training.
  • Provides supervision in the absence of a Learning Center Supervisor as delegated and assist TLCC Management with recruiting, screening, hiring, orienting, mentoring and retaining new peer (student), and/or volunteer tutors.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level of assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of thirty (30) hours of postsecondary course work to include a minimum of nine (9) hours in Writing, Reading, and Education OR nine (9) hours in Math and Education. Content courses must be completed with a grade of B or better.
  • Required Documents: unofficial transcripts with course names and grades, resume or CV, cover letter.

Preferences

  • Bilingual – Spanish speaker
  • Experience tutoring or teaching adult learners
  • Experience tutoring or teaching English as a second language
  • Experience working with adults with special needs
  • Able to tutor both English and Math at a High School level
