Instructors of the Upward Bound Program provide face-to-face and online academic support services to the students of the Upward Bound Project in an area of expertise (Math, English, and Science). All instructors are hired in a part-time, temporary status with the possibility of continuing to teach during the Academic Year and future Summer Program components. 

The instructor will be hired to teach for the 2023 -2024 Academic Year, Six Week Summer Session, and required to work on Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (two Saturdays a month) from September 2023-May 2024 and six weeks during the summer. This is also a Clery Security Authority (CSA) Position.

  • Teaches at an appropriate instructional level face-to-face and online classes, course outline & Syllabus.
  • Conducts assigned classes and provides other academic support services (e.g., workshops, and development session with emphasis on academic
  • Assists Academic Advisor with the initial and on-going assessments of students' academic abilities and rates of achievements.
  • Provides teacher-focused and student-focused content development, assess & monitor student progress.
  • Provides initial focus, content emphasis and linking, and lesson summaries.
  • Handles non-instructional tasks efficiently and uses instructional time appropriately.
  • Maintains effective physical setting for instruction.
  • Maintains and encourages appropriate student behavior in the classroom.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with staff, students, and parents, while maintaining confidentially.
  • Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
  • Maintains lesson plans as required by policy.
  • Experience teaching educationally & delivering course material effectively to targeted student population.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Appropriate secondary and specific credential required - (Bachelors degree required).
  • Must be Highly Qualified: Math (9-12) Clear Renewable Certificate.
  • Certification and experience working with high school students in an academic setting.
  • Experience teaching and Familiarity with standardized tests .

Master's Degree preferred.

The work requires minor physical exertion such as short periods of standing, walking long distances, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Job may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities.
