The TRIO Programs at the University of North Texas at Dallas were designed to support the academic development of students within our partner schools of Dallas ISD and surrounding school districts.
Position Overview
The Talent Search Advisor is responsible for supporting the Talent Search Program requiring a general working knowledge of TRIO Programs specifically Talent Search. The Talent Search Advisor will be responsible for a variety of tasks which may include assisting with data collection, data input, program monitoring, program assessment, student support, community outreach, assisting with data collection, assisting in developing and conducting programs, reporting and program marketing.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree Psychology, Sociology, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to mentor and coach others.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, and virtual conferencing platforms such as MS Teams and Zoom.
  • Ability to coordinate and attend events and meetings at times beyond traditional office working hours is required.
  • Excellent communication, verbal, presentation and leadership skills.
  • Ability to make decisions independently and, at times, with little to no direction. 
  • Strong and creative problem solving and critical thinking skills 
  • Ability to collect, analyze and report various types of data sets.
  • Ability to work urgently on multiple tasks at once in a fast paced and results oriented environment.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with a number of teams and individuals to accomplish the goals of the program.
  • Commitment to the success of high school students through the college application process.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, or related field
  • Experience working with underserved populations.

Job Duties


o
This position will require travel between target schools in Dallas and Cedar Hill, TX.
o
Will identify, recruit, and serve assigned caseload of Project Participants
o
Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
o
Will provide academic advising, college, career, financial literacy, and financial aid information and workshops to Program Participants.
o
Adhere to agency and project policies and procedures, comply with grant and federal regulations.
o
Will be responsible for maintaining student database, including entering participant demographics, daily/weekly/monthly contacts, and service logs.
o
Conduct activities to support the objectives of the Talent Search (TS) Program including supporting TS Director with academic events, parent nights and other activities.
o
Establish/maintain effective working relationship with students, TS Staff, and DISD school officials.
o
Will comply with Talent Search and middle/high school guidelines as well as FERPA regualtions.
o
Assist Project Director to generate the Annual Performance Report.
