Job Summary/Basic Function:

Accountant Associate:

  • Develop and maintain records, documents, and financial data that encompasses a variety of financial activities typically including: budget, payroll and benefits, accounts payable/receivable, accounts reconciliation, travel, purchasing and similar supporting functions. Perform professional accounting work and other duties as assigned.

Treasury Accountant:

  • Prepares and analyzes financial reports, making studies or recommendations relative to the accounting of assets, revenues and expenditures. Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications reported on the financial statements of the University. Provide information to University staff regarding accounting practices and procedures, and reconciling general ledger accounts. This position assumes the role of a subject matter expert on assigned topics.
Department Overview:

Treasury and Real Estate department is part of University Financial Services (UFS) and supports the University’s Academic Mission by:

  • Provide daily cash and banking services.
  • Manage debt and investment portfolios.
  • Acquisition or lease of approved space in support of the campus master plan.
  • Coordinate financing and debt issuance for approved campus projects.
  • Provide business case analysis and advising to campus departments.

This position has the opportunity for hybrid and/or flexible scheduling but must be in-person at the beginning of employment for onboarding and training.

Level Scope:

Accountant Associate:

  • Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Treasury Accountant:

  • Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.
Essential Functions:

Accountant Associate:

Download and review daily banking data to ensure accuracy & completion 

  • Download daily banking activity.
  • Review transactions and communicate with campus departments.
  • Generate journal entries based on daily banking data.

Research and reconcile departmental deposit activity 

  • Function as department subject matter expert in the departmental deposit process.
  • Review deposits submitted by departments and assist in troubleshooting upload issues.
  • Validate deposits submitted against banking activity to ensure accuracy prior to close.

Support University wide Merchant Service programs 

  • Create and upload journal entries related to merchant service processing.
  • Research and coordinate credit card charge backs.
  • Maintain credit card processor data listing.
  • Manage Treasury credit card loaner terminal check in/out.

Assist with Treasury department administrative tasks 

  • Responsible for the weekly 8300 Report, Report of Cash Payments Over $10,000.
  • Create and submit department invoice payments.
  • Assist with Unclaimed Property reporting.
  • Assist in maintaining shared Treasury email.
  • Miscellaneous administrative tasks as needed.

Additional functions

  • Research and analyze data for accuracy and to ensure appropriate accounting procedures have been followed for compliance with Federal and State laws and university policy. Prepare and process journal entries as assigned.
  • Audit, analyze, and verify fiscal records and reports. Prepare financial and statistical reports, reconcile general ledger accounts and assist in preparing annual budgets. Maintains complex spreadsheets.
  • Responsible for items such as, developing and monitoring annual budgets, supporting the management and implementation of financial systems, generating and analyzing financial reports and developing processes and procedures to comply with State and Federal laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Treasury Accountant:

  • Assists with treasury operations including but not limited to daily cash positioning, wire and payment requests, investments, capital projects and bank reporting.
  • Assists in the monthly, quarterly and fiscal year-end process as needed including but not limited to preparation of journal entries, work papers, reconciliations and account analysis.
  • Prepare, analyze, and/or audit financial records and documents.
  • Quarterly financial statement analysis on assigned financial statement rollups verifying fiscal records and preparation of statistical reports and analysis. 
  • Analytical review of complex account reconciliations.
  • Prepares complex reports, schedules and special studies requiring a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures for both internal and external financial reporting requirements and year-end audit. Analytical review of complex account reconciliations.
  • Interprets, applies and explains complex laws, codes, regulations or ordinances. Research and analyze data for accuracy, trends and variances to ensure appropriate accounting procedures have been followed for compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and University policy.
  • Routinely makes decisions regarding proper processing, booking and reporting of transactions. Reconciling account balances and external statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Accountant Associate:

 Treasury Accountant:

  • Experience preparing financial and/or auditor statements, schedules and reports.
  • Experience interpreting, applying and explaining complex laws, codes, regulations or ordinances.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting practices and principles.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience in effective data presentation using Excel and/or other spreadsheet computer applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial analysis.
Minimum Qualifications:

Accountant Associate:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Treasury Accountant:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus two years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Accountant Associate:

  • Experience in treasury and/or banking processes and reconciliations.

Treasury Accountant:

  • Experience collaborating with a diverse team of professionals.
  • Experience with a complex ERP environment.
  • Working knowledge of treasury operations. Experience with investment accounting is desirable.
Salary and Benefits:

Accountant Associate:

  • Salary starting at $47,195.20 annually, commensurate with experience.

Treasury Accountant:

  • Salary starting at $57,200.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
