Work Schedule
8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday with periodical evening and weekend hours required in support of special events such as football games, Commencement ceremonies, chartered transportation and other PaTS-supported functions.
This position is designated as mandatory. The incumbent is expected to use sound judgment with respect to maintaining personal safety given their individual circumstances, but also to make a substantial and good-faith effort to reach the work site in a timely manner when adverse weather or other conditions affect normal campus operations.
Primary Purpose of Position
The incumbent will serve as part of the Transportation unit within the Parking and Transportation Services department. This position will manage daily operations and staff for Transportation programs and services offered to students, faculty and staff. Programs include: Niner Paratransit, a point-to-point disability transportation service for eligible program members; Niner Rides, the campus’ on-demand, ride-sharing program; Niner Transit, the campus’ transit operation that is provided by a third-party company.
Other responsibilities include managing a team of 15-20 employees, monitoring and supporting scooter/bike/car-sharing services, bicycle lockers, bus shelters, chartered and special event transportation, in-vehicle bus and bus shelter advertising, and performing other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director for Transportation or their designee.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Job Duties
  • Direct day-to-day management of all transportation-related areas of the department including:
  • Niner Transit, Niner Paratransit, scooter/bike/car-sharing programs, bicycle locker rentals, department fleet management, in-vehicle bus advertising, bus shelter advertising, chartered and special-event transportation.
  • Direct management of approximately 20 staff members, to include recruiting, hiring, training and general employee relations.
  • Assumes the duties of the Assistant Director for Transportation in their absence.
  • Ensure operations are meeting performance and safety targets.
  • Minimize transportation service disruptions and resolve any unscheduled delays, possibly having to make decision in difficult situations.
  • Provide department leadership with various reports and support department initiatives and projects.
  • Review and process necessary billing for contract and chartered transportation services.
  • Represent the department’s programs and services when attending campus stakeholder meetings.
  • Works with campus community members, internal and external customers to promote alternative forms of transportation.
  • Respond to general customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure vehicle inspections are properly completed and at the frequency required.
  • Track and manage department vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Coordinate with IT team on software and technical components of all transportation programs.
  • Work to promote an environmentally sustainable operations wherever possible.
Other Work Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize and oversee the annual Transportation Fair.
  • Must be available after-hours to receive emergency calls.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Transportation or their designee.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation and Logistics and at least five (5) years of transportation program administration experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in a passenger-carrying transportation role.
  • Proficiency with Google software products (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc.) and a familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and address customer feedback in a professional manner.
  • Experience in campus transit or transportation in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of ADA laws and regulations.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in pressured situations, and the ability to pivot with little notice.
  • Ability to work independently and in a busy environment while portraying a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple applications and responsibilities.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
  • Valid, state-issued driver license.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class A or B with Passenger endorsement and valid DOT medical certification, or ability to obtain both the CDL and DOT Medical Certification within the first 6 months of employment.
