The Transportation Maintenance Leader I, under general supervision, is responsible for performing and supervising the painting of parking spaces in garages and parking lots. Leader I, is responsible for leading employees to ensure that coordination with Special Events and Parking Services personnel is completed in order to successfully deploy signage and barricades and other devices as needed for traffic and pedestrian notification and control. Leader I, under general supervision, is responsible for the high-level graphic content preparation, production, coordination and deployment of signs, barricades and other devices used for traffic and pedestrian notification and control.  Directs the work of other staff assigned for task completion.  Provides leadership to assigned personnel on a daily basis.The selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability as stated above. Required Education and Experience:

  • High School graduation or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four years of related experience in building or mechanical maintenance work.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, occasional holidays and all home football games.

Preferred Experience:

  • Three or more years supervisory experience.

  • Work experience emphasizing construction maintenance and  repairs, welding, deployment of traffic control devices

  • Experience in painting or striping parking lots.

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certification or license in one or more of the mechanical/electrical trades.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of the TAMU (College Station) campus and familiarity with traffic control, sign production, parking lot striping and special events support.

Responsibilities:

  • Special Events - Assist supervisor as required in coordinating with Special Events and Enforcement personnel in regard to signage and barricade deployment and other support necessary for special events, athletic events, fun runs, conferences, etc. Requires driving to various campus locations to set up signage and barricades. Assist supervisor as required to ensure proper inventory levels of devices are available for support of upcoming events.

  • Maintenance/Barricades - Assist supervisor in the execution of various tasks and duties as assigned. Said tasks may include maintenance, coordination with other units and departments. Assist supervisor as required by providing coordination for periodic, labor-intensive functions such as year round special event support, football game support, pothole repairs, routine maintenance of parking structures (RV parks, garages etc)., etc. that the unit is charged with supporting. Be observant of areas and items that require attention/repair such as signage, barricades, painting, as well as other opportunities across campus. Periodically assist with maintenance and repair to parking-related structures and garages.

  • Signage/Painting - Assist supervisor as required in coordinating the production and installation of all parking lot, garage, informational, way finding signage and with the prepping and assembling of vinyl signage. Periodically assist painting team with grinding, laying out stripes or markings, painting, applying thermo-lay traffic markings, cleaning of painting tools, painting structures, repairing woodwork, repairing plaster and repairing/laying tile.

  • Leader - Responsible for leading employees that are assigned daily to include training, answering questions, reviewing procedures, providing operational feedback on a frequent basis, responsible for maintaining a positive work environment focused on customer service and dedicated to continuous improvement. Responsible for working with supervisor for guidance and assistance in accomplishing these tasks. Promote security of vehicles, parking structures, and safety to assure that the unit follows policies and procedures.

  • Sign Printing, Fabrication and Deployment - Produce and coordinate the production and installation of all parking lot, garage, informational, and way-finding signage. Prepare and assemble vinyl signage. Provide direction and oversight to staff assisting with signage. Set up, program, and operate vinyl cutting, and high-capacity color digital reproduction equipment according to job specifications. Maintain records of work performed and materials expended in the management information system.

Persons in this position will be required to drive state vehicle to travel to various parts of campus and are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
