JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Larson Transportation Institute in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct research within the field of Transportation Engineering. This position will primarily focus on transportation electrification and dynamic system modeling; the successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research projects in smart mobility, particularly concerning electric and automated vehicles, and their profound impact on multi-scale transportation system modeling.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and conduct research activities related to transportation electrification and/or transportation system modeling.

  • Author and co-author high-quality journal papers.

  • Collaborate and coordinate research efforts with both internal and external research teams and industry partners.

  • Provide support to the Principal Investigator (PI) in the preparation of grant proposals.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in civil engineering or a related field by the appointment start date.

  • Strong background and hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas of transportation engineering: transportation electrification, transportation systems modeling, automated vehicles, reinforcement learning, or AI applications in transportation engineering.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to conduct high-quality research and showcase research outcomes through prior publications and presentations.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.

  • A strong background in mathematical modeling and programming is preferred.
