Summary

The Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) is the home of the University of Michigan?s Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health. MICHR is part of a national, collaborative consortium that is focused on bringing more health solutions to all people more quickly by advancing clinical and translational science (CTS). The field of CTS aims to build an evidence base of scientific and operational approaches that improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and impact of translational research across a range of diseases and conditions. MICHR has the unique charge of examining the translational research ecosystem at a systems level to determine where common pitfalls exist; developing novel solutions to these challenges; demonstrating their effectiveness; and disseminating improvements widely. MICHR is a dynamic organization that serves as a hub of innovation and experimentation to advance research in the science of translation and accelerate the realization of interventions that improve human health.

MICHR is seeking a Translational Science Specialist to work in partnership with MICHR?s Managing Director of Research Strategy to elevate the organization as national leaders in building and advancing the field of translational science.  The Translational Science Specialist will possess curiosity and flexibility, be adept at navigating ambiguity, and energized by challenges. The Translational Science Specialist will also be able to move seamlessly between change strategy and change execution and collaborate with those across a multitude of research and programmatic domains.

Responsibilities*
  • Engage in strategy conversations and contribute to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Plan and execute large scale change management projects in alignment with overall MICHR strategy, identifying projects risks and creating mitigation strategies.
  • Translate gaps into strategic translational science and change opportunities.
  • Help to refine, operationalize and evaluate translational science discovery, implementation and organizational frameworks using design, system, and research/experimental methods. Once optimized, develop change management plans, training plans and/or materials that ensure adoption across the organization with minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Focus on changes to organizational structures by introducing new ways of working and by developing new tools and processes so we can achieve our goals more efficiently and effectively. This may include synthesizing information and implementing strategies from various fields, such as the science of team science.
  • Apply change management methodologies, readiness assessments and stakeholder analyses.
  • Support the establishment and communication of our competitive advantage.
  • Build collaborations that support the development and advancement of our translational science agenda.
  • Disseminate advances in translational science via publication, conference presentation, and other avenues.
  • As needed, pursue grant opportunities that support the implementation of translational science endeavors.

Required Qualifications*
  • Master's degree in a health field (e.g., public health).
  • Experience with design thinking, systems thinking and/or human-centered design.
  • Mixed methods experience.
  • Experience in strategic planning and promoting best practices in coordination and collaboration with large-groups and/or organizations.
  • Experience writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and grant applications.
  • An understanding of complex scientific terms, principles, and methods to effectively communicate information to others.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Understanding of translational science
  • Experience in team science
  • PhD in science, engineering or design field
  • 8 years or more of related experience.

Note: This position is hybrid, with occasional travel to Ann Arbor, MI required. Remote work options will also be considered.


Additional Information

This is a 3-year term-limited appointment.  At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.


Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
