Description of Work Unit
Translational Medicine Institute
The Translational Medicine Institute (TMI) is operated under the Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University (CSU). The Institute provides a safe, secure, state of art facility for university investigators, government scientists and industry representatives to collaboratively research translational medicine with a focus on biologics such as stem cells. The TMI program is a new program housed in a 130,000 square foot building (C Wayne McIlwraith Translational Medicine Institute). This facility has capabilities to engage in experimental surgical procedures, minimally invasive teaching hands on learning, didactic lectures up to 300 people as well as complete wet laboratory facilities including cGMP space, food service, and administrative space for entrepreneurial development.

The Translational Medicine Institute at Colorado State University is seeking a dedicated Sterilization and Supply Technician. This crucial role ensures our state-of-the-art facility remains a clean, efficient, and reliable hub for pioneering medical advancements. Join us and play a vital part in a team that’s transforming the future of medicine for animals and people!
This position receives and sterilizes medical supplies, equipment, instruments, and processes laundry for the Translational Medicine Institute (part of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital) which is used by the Pre-Clinical Surgical Research Laboratory, Equine Orthopedic Research Center, and the Continuing Education Program.
This is a great position for anyone who is curious about veterinary, medical, inventory control, or sterilization fields. As a highly flexible job, this can be a high or low social interaction, good for individuals who like working as a team or independently.
Activity at The Translational Medicine Institute ebbs and flows from day to day. We are looking for a part-time position, working about 16 hours a week primarily between the hours of 2:00pm and 6:00pm, Monday through Thursday. The hours and days above are flexible! We are happy to work with your schedule.
The ideal candidate is an individual who is planning on attending classes at CSU to take advantage of the decreased tuition, learning about CSU’s culture, and making connections for the future.
Part time/Flex hours, 2p-6p 4 hours x 4 days weekly (flexible)
Physical demands of the position:
  • Attention to detail
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Sit, reach, stoop, kneel, bend intermittently as required
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large, heavy object/containers/machinery
  • Wear proper protective equipment
  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and/or biohazard waste

Duty/Responsibility
  • Prepare Surgical teams for next day’s cases based off needs from intradepartmental teams, works with other departments to make sure everything is brought in in an appropriate time for next day’s cases.
  • Inspects, tests, cleans, assembles, packages, and labels instruments in preparation of sterilization to ensure that instruments are ready and available when needed.
  • Removes gross contaminated soils from equipment and instruments before sterilization.
  • Run steam autoclaves, Hydrogen Peroxide Gas Plasma sterilizer, ultra-sonic cleaner, and other equipment.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Collect laundry from designated locations within the TMI.
  • Removes soils from laundry before washing in machines.
  • Manage loading and unloading washers and dryers, folding, and sorting all laundry and placing on appropriate department shelves.
  • Fold laundry with care and attention to detail meeting department specific requirements.

  • Ensures department is locked and secured, and lights are off in building when exiting.
  • Completes daily checklist of closing duties.
