Position Summary

This position performs specialized duties in the provision of transfer advising and assistance to students.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Collaborates with Office of Learning and School Deans to ensure accurate articulation agreements and transfer pathways information between San Juan College and upward transfer partners is available to students.

  • Plans and implements comprehensive upward transfer support services for students.
  • Coordinates campus efforts to educate academic advisors, faculty and students on transfer processes and resources.

  • Develops partnerships and maintains relationships with four-year institutions and develops pathways and transfer opportunities for San Juan College students.

  • Coordinates Transfer events including University Partner Visits and Transfer Fairs.

  • Oversees communications related to transfer support, including informing students about general transfer guidelines and timelines, Transfer Fairs and visits from transfer partners.

  • Represents the college at local, state, regional and national meetings and conferences related to transfer initiatives and support.

  • Collaborates with Marketing to develop branded communication, and maintain the transfer website, ensures updated articulation and transfer pathways are available online, and information about upcoming transfer visits and events are published on the website and social media platforms.

  • Monitors and Reports on transfer intent of AA and AS students.

  • Performs related duties.

  • Knowledge of transfer guidelines for admissions to four-year institutions.

  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of social media and institutional and educational websites.

  • Knowledge of event coordination principles.

  • Skill in developing effective marketing materials and press releases.

  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

  • Skill in working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Senior Director of Student Outreach, Advising, and Retention assigns work that aligns with institutional transfer initiatives and associated goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through monthly reports, evaluations, and observation of the development and implementation of transfer activities.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act guidelines, the college employee handbook, and college and program policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. 

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied specialized, program and event coordination duties.

  • The purpose of this position is to coordinate campus transfer initiatives, programs, events and activities. Success in this position contributes to the academic success of students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects.

  • The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over the WNMU Transfer Advisor and the NASNTI POWER transfer advisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

  • Experience working in higher education or comparable education and experience; or

  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

  • Interpreting, applying and explaining requirements;
  • Compiling data and preparing reports;

  • Working in a team environment.

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
