Summary

The Training Specialist-Senior at Michigan Medicine is a role for an experienced, dynamic training professional who will be responsible for administering, organizing, conducting, and evaluating training and educational programs in connection with management & leadership development, professional development, on-the-job training, and employee orientation for the academic medical center. Training and development may occur in a classroom setting, online, or designed with a variety of learning tools and aids to encourage and sustain individual or team development. The Training Specialist-Senior may conduct training needs assessments and work with external and/or internal consultants to develop and deliver training programs. As a member of the Human Resources team, they will work under the direction of the senior leader of MM HR Strategy and Organizational Effectiveness and will be responsible for other projects and duties as assigned.

Responsibilities*
  • With minimum supervision, develop and implement training and development strategies to align with the organization's business and strategic needs.
  • Independently develop and deliver training programs, including the development of instructional design materials.
  • Provide consultation to departments regarding unit-based/team-based development needs.
  • Provide consultation to leaders and professional staff on individual development needs, learning styles, and development planning.
  • Schedule and coordinate training and development activities, including securing space and materials, identifying trainers, moderators, or facilitators, coordinating logistics, setting up classroom space, documenting attendance, and coordinating promotional communications.
  • Conduct other pre-designed training programs.
  • Provide staff support to learning-focused committees and unit-based or special initiative learning and development teams.
  • Review training proposals and contracts for external training vendors and ensure that training consultants perform as outlined in the contract.
  • Design, administer, and analyze data from learning assessments and programs.
  • Monitor training expenditures to operate training programs and activities within planned budgets.
  • Develop and coach other individuals with training and facilitation responsibilities, including internal clinical, research, and administrative staff serving as trainers.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Position requires 5 - 8 years of professional experience in training and development which includes program design and evaluation.
  • Proven experience coordinating programs is necessary.
  • Applied experience in traditional classroom training, facilitation, and/or public speaking is necessary.
  • Knowledge and experience in online and blended learning design and delivery.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written skills.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in training and development, human resource management, education, business administration, or a related field.
  • Five to seven years of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of University practices and Human Resources rules and regulations is desirable.
  • Knowledge of personality, work style, and individual and team assessment tools to facilitate individual and team development.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
