Summary of Duties:

The Trainer, Learning and Design will be responsible for overseeing the PRISM Collaborative’s ongoing efforts to train treatment providers in Contingency Management (CM), a behavioral approach to treating substance use disorder (SUD). The PRISM Collaborative is a dynamic team of researchers working to develop, test, and disseminate strength-based solutions for mental health and substance use disorders.
Specifically, this position will be responsible for collaborating with other training staff to develop training materials adapted to audience needs, deliver virtual and in-person training sessions to clinical treatment providers from diverse backgrounds, engage in outreach to expand trainings, and oversee the day-to-day operations of PRISM’s training efforts. This position will promote best practices in teaching and learning by collaborating with clinicians and clinical staff to implement technologies and methods that are conducive to the learning process.
A specific focus of this work will be to partner with faculty and other stakeholders to deliver training and technical assistance in contingency management to American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
This role requires experience facilitating workshops, working collaboratively with colleagues to develop innovative learning materials, an ability to learn quickly, and an ability to establish meaningful relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The position will also require experience in designing, delivering, and assessing training programs for vulnerable populations. Due to the nature of the research studies, personal or professional experience working with Native communities is highly desirable.

This position is for a one-year appointment; Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

Position will primarily perform work in Washington State as well as California and other locations.

Job Duties:

60% Training Delivery

  • Deliver training both in-person and virtually to clients.
  • Deliver training to clients in a large-group setting and smaller, more individualized settings.
  • Work with clients and other WSU staff to identify areas that are posing a challenge to learners and work to address these challenges.
  • Coordinate fidelity monitoring activities.
  • Solicit feedback, evaluate and implement improvements to training.

20% Training Development

  • Work collaboratively to adapt training materials to meet the needs of clients.
  • Identify techniques to improve the adult learning experience. Integrate these techniques into training best practices.
  • Develop Train-the-Trainer curriculum.

10% Outreach

  • Work with Director and other WSU staff to prepare training proposals for other clients and organizations.
  • Identify potential clients and work with them to engage in training services.
  • Serve as a representative of PRISM’s training initiatives at events and conferences.

5% Administrative Management

  • Work with Lab Manager and Administrative Assistant to establish vendor contracts for services integral to training efforts.
  • Work with Administrative Assistant to order and distribute necessary supplies.
  • Work with Administrative Assistant to coordinate training-related travel and reimbursements.
  • Provide oversight of training contract budgets.

Required Qualifications:

A Master’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience that has included designing and facilitating learning opportunities for diverse groups, educational assessment, maintaining learning environments and communities (may or may not be technology enhanced), and best practices in teaching and learning.

Additional Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Education, teaching or education, organizational development or related field.  
  • Experience developing training curriculum or similar work.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute deliverables in a remote capacity.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral and presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing short- and long-term plans.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel for work purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with American Indian, Alaska Native, or other indigenous communities.
  • Background in adult learning or evidence-based instructional/best practice methods.
  • Experience delivering evidence based behavioral health interventions, such as contingency management.
