POSITION TITLE DEPARTMENT: CT Scan Technologist Diagnostic Imaging
REPORTS TO: EFFECTIVE DATE: CT Supervisor, Clinical Manager, Director 8-6-2010
I. JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction performs a variety of C.T. procedures at a skilled technical level requiring the ability to apply ionizing radiation for diagnoses. Performs related work as required.

TELEPHONE SKILLS - Demonstrates hospital telephone etiquette by answering the phones promptly, courteously and identifying department and self.
POLICIES/PROCEDURES- Is aware of and follows all hospital and department policies and procedures.
TEAM WORK-Promotes positive co-worker relationships through team work and cooperation. Understands and supports the needs of individuals in other departments and promotes conflict resolution. Shares information, work knowledge and experience with coworkers, physicians and students in a non-threatening manner. Offers assistance and promptly responds to requests.
PRODUCTIVITY -Maintains high productivity and performs efficiently regardless of whether the work volume is high or low. Appropriately prioritizes work activities. Responds to difficult situations with self-control and a positive attitude. Makes decisions independently and knows when to ask for assistance. Exercises good judgment and arrives at sound decisions. Documentation is accurate, complete and legible.
Demonstrates knowledge of principles of physics, scanning technique, and computer science skills related to C.T. scanning.
Demonstrates complete working knowledge of C.T. imaging equipment and computer software necessary to perform studies. Calibrates imaging systems periodically as required.
Reviews patient history and consults with radiologist if necessary (images and reports) Clarifies all physician orders.
Documents exam completion and any medications including e-GFRS and CTDI volume
Reviews hand-off form and fills out for return
Assures patient modesty and comfort
Tech introduces him/her self to patient and explains procedure
Practices universal protocol. Washes hands pre and post procedure.
Never leaves patient unattended without safety strap or bedrails..
Assists in the training and guidance of new technologists and students.
Reviews and completes proper billing functions before turning in Cerner, START and COMPLETE exams accurately and timely before turning in to Radiologist and checking accuracy in PACS.
Review for contrasted exams and high radiation procedures. Discusses with radiologist and documents.
Follows facility policy & procedure when performing invasive procedures, including sterile technique, documented time out process, completed patient consent form and proper labeling of specimens
Reviews images for proper positioning, technique and identification according to approved protocols. Assures all information stored in PACS and RIS is accurate
Reviews M.D. order, patient questionnaire and requisition for physician notes and/or special instructions and reviews patient procedure with radiologist and patient if necessary, to assure safety and appropriateness
Confirms patient identification by department protocol (verbal communication, I.D. band, etc.)
Performs visual inspections, selects appropriate equipment and applies immobilization devices as required.
Recognizes emergency situations, initiates proper decontamination procedures, properly administer codes and first aid as needed.
Records pertinent patient information and completes all paperwork as required and assists in maintaining files
Keeps room/work stations neat, orderly and prepared and assures equipment and emergency kit is stocked and current. Assists with the ordering and stocking of supplies and equipment.

Reviews fall-risk and pain level of patient. Checks for pregnancy if applicable. Maintains proper oxygen levels if needed. Checks for IV patency. Verifies lab results as required per protocol.
Practices the tenets of ALARA standards at all times as it pertains to staff and patients.
Participates in all ACR accreditation duties as assigned.
Willingly performs other related duties outside immediate work area as assigned or required (i.e., transport, clerical).
