Primary Purpose of the Organization:

The School of Nursing at Fayetteville State University’s (FSU) mission is to educate a diverse population in southeastern North Carolina and beyond to be culturally competent, ethical, and caring nurses for a global society. Nursing is a discipline that builds on nursing theory, the natural, social, and applied sciences, and the humanities. The School of Nursing is committed to educating graduates to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care. Primary Purpose of the Position:

The School of Nursing seeks a committed, distinguished nurse scholar and educator capable of contributing to the continued expansion of the School of Nursing’s Master of Science Patient Safety and Quality Program and the prelicensure and RN-BSN degree programs. The successful candidate must have credentials to qualify for tenure at the rank of full professor. Teaching expectations will be no more than 4 credit hours per semester because of the heavy administrative and leadership responsibilities. An operating budget will be provided to assist the distinguished professor in establishing the programs which are required.
This position is a nine (9) month tenure-track or tenured faculty.
Description of Work Continued:
Lead Program Expansion – 33%:
  • Participate in enhancing the mission and strategic goals of the School of Nursing.
  • Provide leadership in developing a unified understanding of nursing education, health care, and health professionals that is distinct to the region’s needs.
  • Contribute to creating a nursing consortium dedicated to education, service, and research for the School of Nursing and the community.
  • Engage in outreach and partnership activities with the professional nursing and health care communities on behalf of the School of Nursing and the University.

Scholarship – 34%:
  • Advance knowledge through innovation and research in nursing sciences.
  • Facilitate the development of research, scholarship, and grantsmanship among nursing faculty.
  • Promote a program of innovative scholarship to advance the scholarly missions of the School of Nursing and the University.
  • Participate in the University-wide academic community through interdisciplinary collaborations, programs, and curricula.
  • Collaborate with scientists from other disciplines in a program of funded scientific work.
  • Contribute to local, national, and international scientific communities through collaborations and service activities that promote education and dissemination of information.
  • Contribute to the community by collaborating with the Fayetteville area’s public, nonprofit, private, and industry partners.

Teaching and mentoring – 33%:
  • Mentor faculty in their career development as scientists, teachers, and scholars.
  • Teaching expectations will be no more than 4 credit hours per semester.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of the School of Nursing and Dean of the College of Health, Science, and Technology.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Must have earned a doctorate in nursing or related fields with at least eight years of experience in nursing education. Meet the rank criteria for Associate or Full Professor.
  • Must have expertise in grant-writing, research, and scholarship.
  • Must have a demonstrated proficiency in the discipline by a record of extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications, appropriate to rank.
  • Must commit to teaching and mentoring a diverse faculty and student population at the graduate level.
  • Possess the ability to expand current department collaborative teams substantially and funded research programs along with a passion for mentoring and leading early-career faculty to success.
  • Must also be eligible for licensure as an RN in North Carolina
