The Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Licensed Therapist to work at UHealth. This is a joint position in the Neuromuscular and Movement Disorders divisions. The Therapist, Licensed, coordinates and provides individualized case management, group therapy, and bio-psychosocial assessment services, including group and family counseling, for clients within the facility. The incumbent demonstrates expertise in the development of client resources, vocational counseling, discharge and continuing care planning, and client placement.

  • The position reports through the Advance Practice Director and Medical Director of the ALS Center to the Executive Director of the ALS Center, and to Medical Director of Parkinson Multidisciplinary Clinic

  • Work as a member of the ALS and Movement Disorders Multidisciplinary teams, bearing primary responsibility for evaluating and monitoring the patient's cognitive, affective, emotional, and behavioral function and wellbeing.

  • Assist in the implementation of treatment plans individually and under the supervision of clinic and medical directors.

  • Provide counseling and support to individual patients and their family members as needed.

  • Conducts Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for patients with ALS or Parkinson’s Disease.

  • Conduct cognitive behavioral therapy for patients with Movement Disorders, including comprehensive behavioral intervention for tics (CBIT) and work closely with the movement disorder specialists.

  • Provide counseling to patients in preparation for deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery, as part of DBS interdisciplinary team, and help assess psychological readiness for surgery.

  • Consult with the medical director if the patient is suicidal, homicidal, severely depressed, anxious, acting out or showing a high probability of acting out, psychotic or borderline psychotic, manifesting a high degree of psychopathology, or expressing such extreme problems in living, whereby good clinical judgment would dictate initiating the supervisory process.

  • Submit all service reports or other communications involving the patient report to add to the patient's chart. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.

  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and ensure patient confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant field

  • Valid State of Florida Licensure in relevant field

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
