Mathematics Department, Testing Support Center Manager, Full-time, Exempt, MR07

Position Summary:

Management and operations of the Testing Support Center. The Testing Support Center provides proctoring services to faculty from mathematics and other departments for online and in-person exams, especially makeup exams. The mathematics department alone gives tests to several thousand students each semester. The center also provides other assistance with various test-related needs, including monitoring teaching substitute requests.

Managing the operation of the Testing Support Center (TSC). Developing and planning procedures and schedules, creating documents, updating support center information, communicating with instructors and students regarding make-up and other special kinds of testing (Major Field Test, exams requiring SDS time accommodations, substitute proctoring of regular exams, etc.). Providing proctoring services for both online and in-person courses. Assisting instructors with common exams (in-person and online) given by math and other departments within the college with thousands of students in combined enrollment. Proctoring assignments for course instructors and scheduling additional proctors. Making room assignments for exams (Zoom rooms for online exams). Creating documents with exam information for students and proctors. Proctoring in-person and online exams. Creating a TSC report at the end of each semester, providing data analysis and recommendations to the department administration about resources, usage, trends, and improvements in TSC to help instructors in teaching and students in learning.

Supervising the TSC staff. Training, scheduling, assigning, and checking work. Time entry approver. This position is also responsible for recruiting and hiring staff for TSC.

Assisting instructors of the math department and within the college, especially the math department's online grading system. Coordinating with the developer and manager of the system. Setting up the system at the beginning of each semester for instructors to use. Training instructors who are not familiar with the system. Assisting the math instructors in setting up exam parameters for both individual and common exams. Preparing completed exam copies for the grading system (paper and electronic exams). Troubleshooting in real-time during midterm and final exams.

Assistance with various testing needs such as printing and sorting copies for common exams. Assisting faculty with implementing proctoring protocols for online exams; collecting data from TN Voice surveys, etc. Assist other math departmental offices on matters related to teaching and learning.

 



Qualifications

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years experience at an education-related organization

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Google documents and spreadsheets, zoom on various devices, and other software that may be used for proctoring.
  • Sufficient technical understanding to interact with OIT concerning development and maintenance of online proctoring systems.
  • Teamwork and multi-tasking skills. Must be trustworthy, dependable, and reliable.
  • Able to work in busy situations with interruptions. Ability to interact in a professional, courteous manner with students, faculty and other co-workers, and make sound decisions.
  • Willing to work after hours to address urgent substitute teaching requests and proctoring of evening classes. Must have familiarity with university-level testing and standards, and willingness to identify and report suspected academic dishonesty by students.

Preferred qualification:

  • 1-2 years of working in academic setting

Preferred skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge in sharing and collaboration in Google Cloud. Knowledge of parameters involved in university-level testing, such as whether or not calculators, books, notes, etc. are required.
