27 hours per week to be scheduled the following times:
Monday: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Tuesday: 11:00 AM -4:00 PM
Wednesday: 10:00 AM -3:00 PM
Thursday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00AM – 12:00 PM

Job Description


Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Testing Center Assistant will support the overall operations and core testing functions of the Testing Center on the Chesapeake Campus with a mission of service to students, faculty, staff, employers and community members.
Functional Responsibilities:
· Administer comprehensive testing and support the core testing functions to include Virginia Placement Test, industry tests, TCC faculty makeup exams, online/hybrid course exams, testing for Office of Educational Accessibility, and exams from VCCS institutions and other college/universities, on and off-campus
· Provide support to Student Affairs departments such as Virtual Student Support, Admissions & Enrollment, Counseling, Office of Educational Accessibility, and others as needed
· Actively participate in registration activities
· Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external constituents in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
· Promptly answers telephone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and general public
· Maintain daily operation of Testing Center to include: preparing lab computers, cameras, & reference sheets, scheduling student appointments, preparing for appointments, seating students for testing, mailroom box, and other files as needed in accordance with TCC/VCCS policy.
· Obtain necessary credentials to administer various tests to students or other customers
Other duties as assigned

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
· Knowledge of effective customer service techniques both in person and in an automated environment
· Knowledge of college admission policies, procedures, and programs of study
· Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff
· Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse public
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Ability to work varied hours (weekends and evening) and locations (required)
· Demonstrated skill with operating a PC and experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
· Ability to obtain necessary certifications for testing center during work hours within one month of employment
Additional Considerations
· Experience in a college or university environment
· Knowledge of assessment screening principles and measures
· Knowledge of state and federal policies regarding FERPA regulations
· Knowledge of student information systems; PeopleSoft
