Position Summary:

The position is for an on-site test engineer working at the Energetic Materials Branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory's Munitions Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base. Individual will aid senior and mid-level scientist and engineers in planning and executing research activities. Interacts with other engineering groups to define, document, analyze, test, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications. Identifies functional problems and suggests resolutions. Assists in the definition of internal quality control standards and the maintenance of reliability programs. Analyzes test cases and provides regular progress reports. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Minimum Qualifications:

BS degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related physical science with a minimum of 3 years related work experience.
Experience handling and/or testing explosive, energetic or hazardous materials.
Experience with a range of engineering principles, including chemical, physical, and mechanical property testing.
Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
Candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET level security clearance and DoD explosive certification within 1 year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

MS/PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related physical science
Strong planning and engineering design mindset.
Ability to use engineering principles to conceptualize requirements, author documents such as test plans and specification, and design mechanical fixtures/assemblies.
Candidate should be able to plan and execute systematic research efforts adhering to standard research principles.
Employs complex and frequently novel techniques to acquire necessary data. The complexity varies from that of standard documented techniques using existing equipment to the development of new experimental methods/procedures requiring extensive literature review, communication with contemporaries, and independent research.
Ability to handle, package, and transport energetic materials to include: raw ingredients, composite formulations, and energetic wastes resulting from testing of materials.
Ability to perform procedures associated with tracking energetic materials during preparation, test, and waste/residue handling functions.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to understand and adhere to safety policies.
Able to work with a diverse and experienced team of scientists, engineers, and technicians in support and advisory roles.
Demonstrated history of punctuality and dependability at work.
Demonstrated history of successful self-direction on complicated, multi-tiered, tasks.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
