Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Faculty Director of Immersive Learning (FDIL) is to serve as a knowledgeable resource and provide expert instruction for immersive experiences including, but not limited to: simulation learning, virtual reality, mixed reality, and standardized patients. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Experiential Innovation and the Associate Director of Immersive Learning, the FDIL will establish CSC goals, objectives and learning outcomes in close collaboration with faculty, program directors, department chairs and other key stakeholders. This is a full-time term faculty position at the level of Associate Professor/Assistant Professor commensurate to experience with workload assignment split between teaching and administrative responsibilities as determined by the Dean. The FDIL works collaboratively with the SONHP executive team and is overseen by the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Experiential Innovation (ADCA).

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and evaluate course-specific immersive learning activities, including simulation scenarios, in collaboration with course theory and clinical instructors for all SONHP programs, including interprofessional learning activities.

  • Serve as an instructor for specific immersive learning experiences.

  • Maintain knowledge of current clinical trends and advancements in immersive learning technologies.

  • Ensure clinical instruction and performance are consistent with national and professional standards to assure knowledge, skill, and attitude of students, in collaboration with faculty, program directors and department chairs.

  • Support faculty development in competency-based education and assessment.

  • Establish and maintain policies, procedures and guidelines, while maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment within the CSC, which include updating the CSC Handbook.

  • Coach faculty, adjunct faculty, student workers and temporary employees as needed.

  • Ensure standardization and procurement of CSC supplies and equipment.

  • Collaborate with faculty, administration, and staff regarding CSC needs.

  • Monitor budget and partner with ADCA and Director of Operations in resource allocation.

  • Attend leadership and faculty meetings and participate in FASONHP Simulation Committee and Curriculum Committees.

  • Oversee the collection of data on learning outcomes for simulation and clinical skills exercises and collaborates with faculty and Executive Leadership Team on use and dissemination of findings.

  • Prepare administrative reports as needed on usage of CSC, types of educational experiences provided, student outcomes, and other data as required by state regulator (CA Board of Registered Nursing) and national accreditor, Commission on Collegiate Nursing (CCNE).

  • Collaborate with various University departments; participate in and lead University events as needed.

  • Represent USF SONHP through community service engagements and other public facing nursing school events, such as community tours and demonstration events, and participates at regional and national conferences.



Education and Licensure
  • Doctoral degree (DNP, PhD) in Nursing or other Clinical Practice Discipline; if doctoral degree is EdD, must have recent clinical experience (within last 3-5 years).

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for health care providers; current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification for health care providers preferred.


Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of clinical practice experience within the last 5 years.

  • 3-5 years of academic teaching experience; experience using simulation and immersive learning techniques strongly recommended.

  • Ability to work and adapt within a fast-paced, dynamic, managed environment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and interprofessional skills.

  • Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity; with emphasis on sensitivity to cultural awareness and confidentiality.

  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary internal and external partners within the academic, clinical and community settings.

  • Ability to work full-time, in-person on San Francisco campus.

  • Ability to travel to alternate campuses in Orange County and Sacramento as needed.
