Multiple, Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Biohealth Informatics
at Indiana University Bloomington
As part of a major, multi-year initiative to expand research activities in Biohealth Informatics across the IU Bloomington campus, the College of Arts and Sciences , the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering , and the School of Public Health-Bloomington invite applications for multiple tenure/tenure-track positions at the Associate or Full Professor ranks to begin in the Fall of 2024 (earlier or later start dates can be negotiated). Appointments will be in one or more departments, including Informatics , Computer Science , Biology , Health & Wellness Design , or Applied Health Science .
We are particularly interested in researchers working in the following areas, though this list is not exhaustive and candidates with research foci in related, unlisted areas should submit a query: 
  • Application of AI, machine learning, computer vision, complex systems, or networks tools and techniques as they relate to biology, health, and wellness, including LLM integration and novel uses of natural language processing (NLP) approaches to large-scale datasets,
  • Biomedical complexity, personalized/individualized/precision health, healthcare cybersecurity,
  • Biological data privacy, 
  • Consumer health IT and digital health, 
  • Genomics, bioinformatics, or computational genome science/genome informatics, health informatics or public health informatics,
  • Human-computer interaction (HCI) and human robot interaction as they relate to health and wellness, including assistive robotics, 
  • Mobile health applications, wearable health technologies, and data analytics.

We seek candidates who apply interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives from a variety of domains, including biology, bioinformatics, computational social sciences, environmental studies, healthcare, information studies/data science, human-centered computing, and systems engineering among others. The positions are part of a university-wide initiative that aims to understand and improve the health of humans and their environment. 
IU has long been a leader in multiple research areas using large datasets across humans, animals, and social systems, for example in the Center for Bioinformatics Research , Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics, Center for Social and Biomedical Complexity , Center for Complex Networks and Systems Research , Rob Kling Center for Social Informatics , Center for Health by Design, Prevention Insights , and Environmental Resilience Institute . These hires will build on existing strengths to position IU at the forefront of new research opportunities, taking advantage of new computational approaches, new datasets, and new ways to connect data of multiple types.
Responsibilities: Candidates are expected to sustain an active, externally funded research program, to engage undergraduate and graduate students through effective teaching, and to participate in service to the University and the profession. Candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment. To advance scholarly innovation and excellence, we especially welcome candidates who will broadly increase the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion through any of the following: their lived experience, research, teaching, and/or mentoring. 
Basic Qualifications
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Informatics, Bioinformatics, Biology, Public Health, or a closely related field (e.g., Science and Technology Studies, Epidemiology, Psychology). A firm commitment to the role of diversity in all aspects of research, education and service is essential. Candidates for Associate and Full Professor positions must demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for a senior career level, including extramurally funded research, current funding or strong potential to secure external funding, an established record of publications and scholarly work, and experience teaching.
