JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor, with a demonstrated excellent track record in scholarship and education, recognition from the research community, a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion, and the promise of continued distinction.

Exceptional candidates are sought for a position covering a broad range of research in the areas of semiconductor packaging and heterogeneous integration for a variety of applications, with a focus on electronic design automation, co-design, materials, fabrication, assembly, test, reliability, photonics, security, and others. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and sustain an outstanding research program and be an effective, inspiring teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Electrical Engineering is home to the Center for Heterogeneous Integration of Micro Electronic Systems (CHIMES), supported by Semiconductor Research Corporation through the Joint University Microelectronics Program 2.0 (JUMP 2.0).

The position will be co-funded by the Materials Research Institute at Penn State, which coordinates interdisciplinary research across the University. The successful candidate will have opportunities to interact with and benefit from new devices and packaging systems and institutional strengths in materials under programs such as the National Science Foundation Materials Innovation Platform 2D Crystal Consortium and a Department of Energy Frontier Research Center focused on three-dimensional integration of ferroelectric materials, among many other opportunities.

Candidates must have a doctorate or equivalent degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline received by the appointment start date. The Assistant Professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in organized research or professional practice; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher or research worker; and must have shown definite evidence of growth in scholarly, artistic, or professional achievement. The Associate Professor should possess the same qualifications as the Assistant Professor, but must also provide evidence of an established reputation in scholarly, artistic, or professional achievement. The Professor should possess the same qualifications as the Associate Professor, but must also provide evidence of a substantial record of advanced research and/or creative work, and of leadership in their field of specialization. This rank should be reserved for persons of proven stature in teaching and/or research. Competitive applicants will have a record of creative research accomplishments, an innovative future research plan, an ability to achieve teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in the practice and teaching of science.

The Department of Electrical Engineering has 41 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, with annual research expenditures of $21.6 million during FY 2023. The undergraduate (juniors and seniors) and graduate programs enroll over 400 and 240 students, respectively.
