Job Description:

Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Kinesiology (Exercise Physiology) beginning in August of the 2024-2025 academic year.

The candidate is expected to be able to teach exercise physiology. In addition to expertise in exercise physiology, we are seeking a faculty member who can also teach course(s) in any of the following subfields: motor control, nutrition, exercise/sport psychology, human physiology, human anatomy, and/or biomechanics.  The teaching load is typically six courses per academic year (which faculty may fulfill through a combination of teaching and advising; the majority of courses are four credits). 

A strong candidate will demonstrate: a commitment to creative and engaging undergraduate teaching and academic advising; a commitment to pursue a program of scholarship that includes undergraduate students, publishing in professional journals, and presenting at regional, state, and national conferences; and a willingness to serve the college, department, profession, and community. Service as an academic advisor to Kinesiology majors will begin in the second year of employment.

Requirements:

Requirements for this position: The successful candidate must have expertise in exercise physiology and one of the following: motor control, nutrition, exercise/sport psychology, human physiology, human anatomy, and/or biomechanics, through advanced education, teaching, and/or work-related experience; the ability to learn and employ innovative teaching and advising strategies; willingness to actively infuse multiple perspectives and critical thinking into pedagogy; commitment to fostering equity and inclusion; and a willingness to serve the college, department, profession, and community. 

Preference will be given to candidates who will have completed their Ph.D. by the time of appointment, although ABD candidates will also be considered. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate teaching effectiveness through a commitment to creative and engaging undergraduate teaching and academic advising and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the value of a broadly educated person. Successful candidates will also maintain an active research program that engages undergraduate students, demonstrate a commitment to fostering equity and inclusion, and demonstrate the ability to work with students in and out of the classroom. Experience and interest in working with students and community members of many backgrounds will be an asset for applicants. Finally, preference will be given to applicants who have or are willing to obtain a current membership and certification in professional fitness organizations such as the NSCA, ACSM, or others.
