JOB SUMMARY:
The selected individual would teach a full-time load (12 contact hours per semester) within the Department of Biology. Courses may include Introductory Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, non-majors Biology, and a course in an area of special expertise. Advising of students and faculty committee work is required. Establishing a research program for undergraduates is desirable. The review of applications will begin January 2, 2024.

Teach twelve contact hours per semesterAdequately prepare all course materials and lessons (Note: preparation time will vary based on instructor experience in teaching that course)Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations, and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved syllabus per faculty established guidelinesProvide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life settingSuitably challenge, engage, support, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respectProvide timely grades to students through college software and upload mid-term and final grades by college deadlines.Respond to student questions on a timely basisEnsure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus Specific Responsibilities:
Contribute to the teaching of Human Anatomy and Physiology at any of the three levels taught: non-majors, nursing majors, biology majors.Contribute to teaching introductory biology to biology majors.Develop and teach a course in an area of special expertise.Advise biology majors in course selection and career preparation.Engage in scholarly activities, such as research.Assist in recruiting students to the college.Grow in an understanding of how Christian faith and the discipline of biology are integrated and help students to grow in this area. QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:Education/Certification: An earned Ph.D. in biology, with specific experience in an area related to human biology, physiology, or microbiology.Christian Commitment: eligible candidates must be thoughtful and articulate Christians and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.Integration of Faith and Learning: Willingness to grow in an understanding of how Christian faith and the discipline of biology are integrated and help students to grow in this area. Preferred:Some classroom experience is beneficial, but not required. Willingness to learn how to teach is essential.Creativity in teaching and program development is desirable.Experience conducting physiology and/or microbiology lab experiments.An established research project or a willingness to engage students in research projects.
