The University of Oklahoma, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Health and Exercise
is hiring additional faculty to accommodate an increasing student demand and to broaden the
research scope that is in line with the overall mission of the University. Applicants should have a
research focus in minority health or social determinants of health. We encourage creative,
innovative, dynamic individuals who would like to be part of a strong team committed to both
teaching and research to apply for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in
Health Promotion beginning Fall 2022.

The Department of Health and Exercise Science is an interdisciplinary program, and one of the
largest in the College of Arts and Sciences and nationally ranked among the best programs in the
country by the National Academy of Kinesiology. The program focuses on Health Promotion
and Exercise Physiology and integrates behavioral sciences with the biological, physiological,
and medical responses to exercise and other aspects of human health. Our faculty balance
teaching (45%), research (45%), and service (10%).


This is announcement is for a tenure-track assistant professor and salary is competitive and

Qualifications
Required Expectations:
1. Qualifications include a PhD or equivalent in Health Promotion/Public Health/Health
Education or related field.
2. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to collaborate within the department and across
the university, and the ability to teach and develop both undergraduate and graduate
courses related to Health Promotion.
3. Applicants who are ABD will be considered; however applicants must have a record of
published research.
4. A planned research agenda with a focus on minority health or social determinants of
health.
Preferred Expectations:
1. Applicants should be able to teach Health Promotion courses (BS/MS/PhD), such as
Chronic Disease (undergraduate), Health Behavior I and II (graduate), Program
Evaluation (undergraduate), Research Methods, Lifestyle Intervention, Health Promotion
Program Planning, Chronic Disease (graduate), and Measurement and Evaluation in
Health Promotion with an expected teaching load of 2 courses per semester; however, all
areas of public health, community health, and health promotion expertise, such as

tobacco use, diet/nutrition, or obesity/weight management will be considered.
2. Faculty that can add to the research mission of the department and contribute to the
diversity of the faculty.
3. Experience mentoring and incorporating students (undergraduate, masters, and PhD) into
a research program.
4. Evidence of current or past external funding for research is preferred.
