East Stroudsburg University’s (ESU) Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, and engaging Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor with preferred expertise in the area of speech science and speech-related disorders.  Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to education, corporate opportunities, healthcare facilities, and a vibrant social and cultural environment. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, the National Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, the Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.


ESU's CSD Department offers undergraduate and graduate level teaching opportunities toward a M.S. degree. The graduate program was approved for reaccreditation through the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in accordance with the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) standards in 2021.  Through face-to-face instruction and clinical opportunities, both on campus at the ESU Speech and Hearing Center and external clinical opportunities, for developing the knowledge and skills for a career in the field of speech-language pathology.


The applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate classes, and will supervise graduate clinicians at the ESU Speech and Hearing Center. The preferred emphasis is in the areas of speech science and organic communication disorders; individuals with any area of specialization are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D)  in communication sciences and disorders or a related area.
  • Expertise in the area of speech science and related speech disorders is preferred; individuals with any area of specialization are strongly encouraged to apply; ABD candidates will be considered
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • Pennsylvania Professional License in Speech-Language Pathology or eligible
  • Pass criminal record checks and TB testing
  • Professional liability insurance
  • ASHA required supervisory and ethics training.
  • Understand accreditation and KASA standards and teach to those standards as indicated in course syllabi, including clinic supervision requirements
  • Primary responsibilities of faculty members include teaching assigned courses within the CSD Department, maintaining regular office hours, participation in assessment of courses, student learning, and program outcomes as well as incorporating service learning opportunities.
  • Additional responsibilities will include undergraduate academic advising, acceptance of departmental assignments, participation in graduate program candidate review, university service, and research in the applicant’s areas of expertise. Preference will be given to individuals with research and clinical experience

Program Development

  • Participate in annual systematic assessment of program
  • Participate in analyzing data and makes recommendations for curriculum and programmatic revisions where necessary

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based instruction in accordance with the policies set forth by ASHA, the department, college and university.
  • Post and keep regular office hours for the convenience of students
  • Participate in the assessment of course, student learning, and program outcomes
  • Incorporate student service learning opportunities

Advisement

  • Assist in advisement of students
  • Guide and counsel students toward personal and career development
  • Track student's completion of progression requirements

Academic & Organization Commitment

  • Serve on campus committees
  • Mentor Adjunct Faculty
  • Participate in faculty meetings
  • Participate in accreditation reviews and reports
  • Engage in the academic and organizational life of the department, college and university
  • Pursue scholarly interests
