POSITION
The Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences (VIBS) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications for a full-time, 11-month, tenure-track faculty position in neuroscience at the Assistant Professor level. We seek energetic individuals whose research expertise is in areas of basic and/or translational neuroscience with emphases for neurological/neurodegenerative disorders including (but not limited to) Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, neuromuscular degeneration, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, neuropathies, and gene therapy. Applicants with an outstanding record of scientific achievement, potential for obtaining extramural research funding, and a passion for graduate/undergraduate education are highly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain an extramurally funded independent research program, train research-intensive graduate students, and teach graduate/undergraduate neuroscience courses.
Unique opportunities exist to interact collaboratively with clinicians at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, as many neurological disorders manifesting in humans also occur in companion animals (such as epilepsy, narcolepsy, brain tumors, spinal cord injuries, dementia, retinopathies, neuropathies, and more). As a tier 1 research university, TAMU offers a highly collaborative multidisciplinary research environment that promotes interactions between faculty in the School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Engineering Medicine, and the Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience. Additional neuroscience-centric groups with specific emphases on translational and clinical medicine, including the Texas A&M Spinal Cord Initiative, the Texas Brain and Spine Institute, and the Institute for Regenerative Medicine are also on campus, so collaborations across the university are welcome and highly encouraged.
Modern laboratory and office space will be provided, as will access to established research cores including advanced microscopy diagnostic imaging including 3 and 4.7 Tesla large and small animal magnetic resonance imaging, high throughput sequencing & bioinformatics, transgenic mouse production, and research animal facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS The applicant must hold a PhD and/or a medical degree (MD or DVM) with a demonstrable track record of research productivity as evidenced by publications and funding potential. SALARY
Salary and start-up packages will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
