Job Description Summary

The Law and Taxation Department at Bentley University invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024. In addition to teaching, the chosen candidate will be expected to publish high quality and impactful scholarship in respected academic journals, engage in service to both the Department and the University, and participate fully in the Department and University communities.

The teaching responsibilities of this position include delivery of Bentleyâ™s required undergraduate and graduate Business Law survey courses. In addition, we seek candidates to support and add to our uniquely broad set of undergraduate law elective courses. Specialty undergraduate courses that we seek to enhance or develop at this time include Marketing Law, Entrepreneurship Law, Non-Profit Business Law, Immigration Law, Social Justice Law, and Race and the Law. Candidates with expertise and willingness to teach in one or more of these topical areas will be especially attractive, as will be applicants with an ability to teach graduate tax courses.

Bentley is committed to the teacher-scholar model where teaching, scholarship, and service excellence are expected and valued. We seek qualified faculty who represent diverse backgrounds, interests and talents and share a commitment to high ethical standards and a willingness to embrace challenge and change.

The department encompasses two disciplines, Law and Tax, with a primary emphasis on Law. Faculty provide both undergraduate and graduate instruction, with an emphasis on undergraduate Law courses. We seek to acquaint students with the legal consequences of their business decisions, as well as to help them understand the role of law in society beyond the business world.

The Department currently offers an undergraduate Minor in Law and a Masters in Tax and anticipates offering an undergraduate Business Law Major in Fall 2024. Both the Major and Minor seek to serve a broad range of business students and are not intended as preparation for law school, but provide an in-depth study of business laws that impact specific arenas of a business enterprise, while also offering an examination of the intersection of business laws with other laws, particularly those that attempt to address public policy and social justice issues.

The Department actively engages with students through our Adamian Law Club and Moot Court Team. We also offer Pre-Law Advising to students interested in attending law school.
