Position Summary
As part of a major, multi-year initiative to expand research activities in Microelectronics Design across the IU Bloomington campus, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering invite applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank to begin in the Fall of 2024. Appointments will be in one or more departments, Intelligent Systems Engineering , Chemistry , and Physics .
We are particularly interested in candidates working in the following areas related to microelectronics design:
  • Microelectronics design for complex systems, heterogeneous integrated devices, artificial intelligence, multimodal sensing, high-performance computing, radiation-tolerant systems, extreme environments, and biomedical and nanotechnological applications.
  • Experimental chemistry that interfaces with microelectronics, including but not limited to spintronics, optoelectronics, nanophotonics, imaging and spectroscopic probes of correlated electrons in quantum materials, and energy-matter interactions.
  • Experimental physics that interfaces with microelectronics, including but not limited to relevant activities, such as integrated circuit design, system-on-chip, heterogenous computing, radiation tolerance, artificial intelligence and machine learning, as applied in condensed matter physics, quantum information, nuclear physics, particle physics and astrophysics.

Candidates who conduct research that complements our activities in establishing the Center for Reliable and Trusted Electronics (CREATE), and ongoing efforts with the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation, and industry, will be given preference. We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives across a variety of these domains.
Responsibilities: Candidates are expected to sustain an active, externally funded research program, to engage undergraduate and graduate students through effective teaching, and to participate in service to the university and the profession. Candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment. To advance scholarly innovation and excellence, we especially welcome candidates who will broadly increase the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion through any of the following: their lived experience, research, teaching, and/or mentoring.
Basic Qualifications
Qualifications: Applicants should possess a PhD in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry (or a related field) and be committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
