Position Summary
The Department ofSpanish and Portuguese at Indiana University, Bloomington, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in the fall of 2024. We seek an individual with expertise in Second Language Acquisition, with emphasis on Psycholinguistics and/or bilingualism. We are looking for a colleague who is committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels (M.A. and Ph.D.) in different areas of Hispanic Linguistics. The ideal candidate will complement existing strengths within the department, will be eager to collaborate with students and faculty, and display a strong record of (continued) scholarly productivity. Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics (or equivalent) is required at time of appointment, as is native/near-native proficiency in English and Spanish; third language proficiency in Portuguese, Catalan, or an indigenous language is a plus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Basic Qualifications
The successful applicant will maintain an active research profile in Second Language Acquisition and be able to teach undergraduate-level courses in Hispanic linguistics (e.g., Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics, Acquisition of Spanish) and graduate-level courses in the applicant’s areas of research specialization (open, provided the applicant be able to teach graduate-level courses in Second Language Acquisition). Additional professional duties include active mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students and provide service to the Department and University. A Ph.D. in Hispanic linguistics or similar field is required at time of appointment. Experience using experimental approaches to linguistic analysis, psycholinguistic research, teacher training, programming, and community-based learning experience is highly desirable.
