The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank in the Department of Business Information & Analytics starting September 1, 2024.

The Department of Business Information and Analytics (BIA) merges the disciplines of Information Systems, Statistics, and Operations Research into a department focusing on the key needs of today’s organizations to create, manage, and understand the wealth of information they possess. The Department of BIA offers an MS in Business Analytics, an undergraduate major in business analytics, and minors in statistics and business analytics. Class sizes for the Department of Business Analytics typically range from 15 to 33. The Department currently has nine full-time tenure track faculty and eight teaching and professional faculty (https://daniels.du.edu/business-information-analytics/faculty-staff/). Position Summary

We are open to applicants from all areas of business analytics scholarship, but have particular interest in candidates who will build upon our strengths by exploring innovative and emerging areas. Applicants must have strong research skills and the ability and desire to conduct high quality research. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses during the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and/or spring quarters. Faculty members are expected to participate in the College’s faculty meetings, assurance of learning, and the advising of students in the program.

Essential Functions

  • Teaching: Expected to deliver up to six courses or their equivalent throughout the academic year, which may include fall, winter, or spring 10.5 week quarters. Summer research support and two course releases for research activity are granted for two years to an
  • Assistant Professor. Course releases and stipends/summer support for research activity beyond the first two years are subject to a competitive process open to all faculty members. There may also be opportunities to teach during the nine-week summer quarter and/or online courses.
  • Teaching may include subjects such as business statistics, database design and SQL, predictive analytics, data mining and visualization, Python programming, project management, simulation, advanced data management platforms (Hadoop, AWS, Azure, etc.), and/or optimization. Teaching responsibilities may include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, hyflex, and online delivery methods taught during the day, night, or weekend.
  • Research, Scholarship or Creative Work: The individual who fills this position will demonstrate potential for conducting high-quality research in business analytics (Information Systems, Statistics, Operations Research, etc.). The College and each academic unit maintain lists of target journals. All professors are expected to conduct primarily discipline-based research and focus on publishing in journals in the premier and top journal categories.
  • Service: The individual who fills this position will be expected to participate in the academic life of the Department of Business Information and Analytics, and the Daniels College of Business. This includes attendance at faculty meetings, participation in assurance of learning, curriculum development, and active engagement in scholarly activities such as research symposia.
  • Significant involvement with students is expected of all faculty members including timely and consistent grading, timely responses to student communications, and student mentoring and informal advising.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in business analytics or closely related field. ABD will be considered, but degree must be completed no later than March 31 of the first year of employment at Daniels. Candidates will hold the title of teaching assistant professor until completion of the doctoral degree.
  • Demonstrated potential for strong performance in teaching, research, and service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Statistics, Operations Research or related field from an AACSB or EQUIS-accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching at an AACSB accredited institution with excellent teaching evaluations.
  • Strong knowledge of programing languages, such as Python.
  • Proven track record for high-caliber research for the area(s) of expertise (e.g., UT Dallas, Financial Times 50, ABDC A*, or journals of similar quality).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds and/or activities that promote diversity and equal opportunity (examples include, but are not limited to, developing strategies for the educational or professional advancement of students in underrepresented groups or activities such as recruitment, retention, and mentoring/advising of underrepresented students or new faculty.)

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar ).

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $190,000.
